My name is: Jan O’Brien
I teach: 6th grade Language Arts
My academic background is: I am a product of Catholic education. Starting in middle school, I transferred to St. Mark’s School in Kenosha, and attended high school at St. Joseph High School. I moved to Waukesha when I was a senior in high school and graduated from Catholic Memorial. I earned my teaching degree from Mount Mary University. Every year when our 8th grade basketball teams go to the Padre Serra tournament I am reminded of the wonderful experience and education I received, and I am proud to be a “Mountie”.
My hobbies or interests are: I love spending time with my family, especially my grand-daughter, Norah. I can be found working in my garden, reading, and taking care of my beagle, Bruno. I love to travel. So far, I have been to 46 states! I have only two trips to go: one to the northeast states, and one to Hawaii. After that, I hope to explore the continents. I will cheer for any sports team from Wisconsin!
I've been at Waukesha Catholic since: My connections to Waukesha Catholic are very personal and treasured. My three children all were graduates of our school. I have been very blessed to be a teacher at Waukesha Catholic for quite a long time. I started out teaching 5th grade at St. Mary’s. After 14 wonderful years, I came to the realization that I wanted a new challenge in my teaching career. That led me to teaching 8th grade, and now 6th grade at the Middle School.
The thing I love most about Waukesha Catholic is: I love Waukesha Catholic because my students teach me something new every day. I love their energy, their humor, and I am energized by their creativity. Every day I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the families of Waukesha Catholic.
